Tomato Risotto | A simple but effective dish of Arborio rice and tomatoes, garlic and basil as the accompanying herb. The rice is cooked in a pan with white wine, seasoning and garlic with the finely chopped tomatoes being added towards the end. A touch of cream and a scattering of basil completes the dish with some parmesan cheese also added towards the end. Plenty of French or Italian bread to wipe your bowl with is a good idea! | Vegetarian
Felafel | Served thoughout Lebanon, Greece and Turkey in various forms, either round or elongated sausage shaped, and made from ground chick peas or fava beans or both, and then moulded into shape with garlic, herbs and sometimes raisins. The small patties are then deep fried and served hot with flatbread and a choice of dips such as yoghurt, mint and garlic. Served also with salad and pickled vegetables. Are normally also included in a middle eastern mezze feast of 6 or 7 dishes. | Lebanese
Kebabs | Try a turkish kebab packed full of salad, your choice of meat (chicken, lamb, donar or falafel) and sauce. Don't be afraid to ask for chilli sauce to pack the punch if you like it that little bit hotter. | Turkish
Mixed Grill | There are those times when you just want to try everything on the menu and the mixed grill is the perfect way to achieve that! Kebabs, doners, grilled chicken, lamb cutlets served together with Tabouleh, hummus, dips and pita bread - it is a wonderful way to experience a little bit of it all. Try some side dishes with the mixed grill such as spicy walnut dip made with roasted red capsicum, sundried tomato, garlic, spices and of course walnuts! Or you might fancy the garlic and mint yoghurt. | Turkish
Dolma or dolmades | A selection of vegetables and vine leaves are served, stuffed with seasoned savoury rice and herbs. This dish takes a while to be prepared but is well worth the wait, oozing with delicious juices. A long term favourite in Turkish restaurants. | Turkish
Borek | Eaten mainly as a starter or snack and similar to the Greek spanakopitta, layers of pastry are filled with either spinach and cheese or a spicy minced meat filling. Found in almost all Turkish restaurants and street takeaway vans who also sell kebabs and doner. | Turkish
Lahmacun or Pide | This is the Turkish equivalent to Pizza! However, they are always served thin and crisp, no deep pan pizzas! Delicate soft cooked noodles are served with a mixture of vegetables steeped in a coconut curry sauce full of herbs and spices. Served with flatbreads or chapattis and usually a side tray of dips and yoghurt with cucumber. Tofu can be added if required. | Vegetarian
Mushroom Burger | No bread involved in this burger – the filling is full of vegetables and herbs, and the ‘bun’ is comprised of two large grilled Portobello mushrooms. Quite a lot of garlic is usually included in this dish to give it oodles of flavour. Can be served with chips or salad as an accompaniment, and a selection of dips and sauces. | Vegetarian
Pumpkin and Feta Ravioli | A very popular pasta dish in vegetarian restaurants with delicate but lightly spiced pumpkin and rich feta cheese. Plenty of different dips are included as well as yoghurt and sauces. | Vegetarian
Baba Ganoush | Probably the most famous of Lebanese dishes, and eaten in many eastern countries, baba ganough is predominantly aubergine or egg plant, mashed with tahini paste, garlic, coriander and paprika to create a wonderful filling dip. It can be served on its own as a starter or part of a middle eastern spread or mezze. It almost certainly comes with olives and pitta bread or flat bread. A lovely tasting strong flavoured dip that makes you want to go back for more! | Lebanese
Tabbouleh Salad | Tabbouleh is predominant in most middle eastern dishes either hot or cold. The bulgar wheat is cooked by pouring over hot water and leaving to stand. Once cold, it is mixed with tomatoes, cucumber, mint, parsley, garlic and diced onions and plenty of seasoning. In some restaurants it is also served with goats cheese, cubed, and sprinkled over the top. A very filling and delicious salad with fresh lemon juice squeezed into give it a touch of acidity. | Lebanese
Pastries | Lebanon is famous for delicious sweet pastries, using a lot of honey, nuts and dried fruits. Probably the most famous are baklava and mammoul cookies, served with deep and rich Lebanese or Turkish coffee after a meal. Juices | A large selection of fresh juices are normally available, being made at the counter. Varieties of vegetable and fruit, some with the addition of spices. A spicy carrot and tomato juice is fantastic as it will contain ginger and cumin but classics such as fresh berry juice with strawberries, blackberries and blueberries are also very popular | Vegetarian

Turkish Coffee | Known throughout the world for its strength and depth of flavour, it is normally ordered according to the amount of sugar you require! A little (az), medium (orta) or lots (cok sekerli). This coffee must be drunk in small sips, particularly as you will find lots of coffee grounds at the bottom. | Turkish
Coffee | Lebanese coffee is very similar to Turkish coffee in its strength and method of serving. Usually accompanied by small sweet pastries or biscuits, it should only be sipped, due to the way it is made, leaving the ground coffee at the bottom of the cup – quite bitter if you take a mouthful! | Lebanese |
